I have a problem with being referred to as nice by all. When everyone refers to you as "nice", it translates in my book to displeasing yourself and over pleasing others.
Some may disagree with me.
My opinion was built on an experience a friend shared with me back in school. Let us call this friend Kate. Kate is a rational buyer with conscious spending. Working with a strict budget, she tries to manage the little she has, knowing the background she comes from.
I introduce a friend of hers, Anna coming from a rich background. She spends irrationally and gives as well. Funny thing, she is always short on cash because she does not believe in the concept of saving.
Kate remained a "nice" friend to Anna throughout their school days. This was because Kate never cautioned her friend about saving and striking a balance between wants and needs, instead she kept giving her friend money. I bet you know who suffered more in this story.
She complained secretly to me and I know she is not the only one in this situation. Sometimes, saying "No" is very necessary. That doesn't mean you are the worst person on earth but because you need to, for your own good. When you are always known as a "yes" person, people are bound to take advantage of that quality.
Being "too" nice is a No for me. That does not mean you should not help when the need arises. Help when you know you can and lovingly decline when you know that rendering that help will be disastrous to you.
Please comment on your thoughts about being too nice. If it's good or bad
