07. DIFFERENT TASTES
Despite Kyle's warning of needing to stay inside for the next couple of days, Aiden ignored his brother's request and instead came up with a suggestion for Julian as they drove back to his house.
"How about we grab a bite to eat before heading back to my place?" Aiden asked. "I'm starving, what about you?"
"I guess I could eat something," Julian muttered, distracted by his thoughts; all of which were about Lance. "Do you have a specific place in mind for where you want to go?"
Julian couldn't seem to let go of the heated conversation that he and Lance had while back in his office. He was baffled by the crazy accusations that Lance had the audacity to throw at him in regard to what his actual relationship was with Aiden.
How Lance came up with the insane idea that Julian and Aiden had something else going on other than a professional business relationship shook Julian to the core. Lance simply made no sense whatsoever.
He and Julian have been separated for almost three, going on four months, and Julian still couldn't believe how incredibly jealous and territorial Lance was when it came to him.
"I can't think of any place special at the moment. How about you surprise me?" Aiden replied; he was also lost in his own thoughts, most of which revolved around his perplexing bodyguard. "Take me to one of your favorite spots. I'm in the mood for something fried and smothered in grease."
"I know of the perfect place that'll fatten you up," Julian chuckled.
"Talking shit about my weight, McAndrew?" Aiden teased. "Not everyone can be built like the fucking Terminator, you know."
Julian shook with laughter. He knew that Aiden had been secretly checking him out ever since he first arrived at his house. Julian knew that his boss was a little bit curious about him, just not to what extent.
"You seriously think that I look like the Terminator?" Julian smiled. "I guess all the time that I've spent in and out of the gym has been paying off. Thanks for the compliment, Grayson. You've somehow managed to make this day a little less shitty."
I knew it! Aiden thought to himself.
There is definitely something going on between him and Lance. He's been in a weird mood ever since we left the ginger's office...
"I'm glad I could help." Aiden grew serious as his curiosity got the better of him. "So, what exactly made your day so shitty? You seemed to be in good spirits before we went and saw your friend, Lance. Did something happen between you two back at his office?"
Tread carefully, playboy. I know where you're trying to go with this, but I'm not taking it there with you, Julian thought.
"I'd rather not talk about it right now, Grayson." Julian sighed. "It's kind of personal."
"Oh, I understand." Aiden decided to drop the topic of Julian and Lance, for the time being, when they finally pulled into the parking lot of a small diner. "I was hoping that we could eat inside and hang out for a while. I'm not really in a rush to go home right now."
The diner was partly deserted apart from three other cars. There looked to be nothing but old people sitting inside, none of them probably even knew how to navigate a cell phone properly let alone know how to alert the press that Aiden Grayson was here.
All in all, this seemed like a safe enough spot to kill a few minutes, Aiden assumed.
"I don't think that we should hang around here for too long," Julian said to Aiden after they got out of the car and headed for the diner's entrance. "I got a text alert on my phone about you not too long ago. I know about Little Town's story. Thanks for telling me about that by the way," Julian said sarcastically.
Aiden blushed. Telling Julian about all that had honestly slipped his mind.
"We have to be careful with everything that we do from now on," Julian said. "And we have to be super discreet about every place we visit, at least until your blackmailer is caught. We can't let our guard down, not for one second, because this place will be swarmed within minutes if the word somehow gets out that you're here."
"Alright, alright, just give me ten minutes - fifteen, tops - and then we can leave," Aiden said one thing but was about to change his mind after he spotted a cute brunette sitting alone at the back end of the diner. A wicked grin crept upon his face as he nudged Julian in the side. "Make that thirty minutes, and the tabs on me, so order whatever you want. I'll take what you're having."
Julian couldn't stop himself from rolling his eyes as he watched Aiden saunter off towards the lone woman's table, looking like a man on a mission. Julian kept his eyes on his boss as he went and sat on a stool at the bar, eventually calling over a server.
"I'll have two of your number three's with a Sprite and if you can please send one meal over to the scrawny little guy sitting with the woman in the purple shirt over there, that'd be great." Julian nodded in Aiden's direction.
"Yes, sir." The young man smiled before disappearing into the kitchen.
Since Aiden seemed happily preoccupied with his new lady friend, Julian thought he'd take a few minutes and give himself a little break. He retrieved his cell phone from his pocket and dialed the only person who knew him the best in this world, aside from his immediate family, and that person would be his best friend, Cassie Day: a blonde haired, brown eyed, thirty-year-old fashion stylist who was currently living out her dreams in New York City.
She and Julian have known each other since middle school and were practically like brother and sister.
"How ironic is it that I was just thinking about you?" Cassie answered on the second ring. "How's that hottie Aiden treating you? Did you get into his pants yet?"
"You've seen him, so you should already know that he's not really my type, Cass," Julian muttered as he looked over at Aiden's table. "I've only been around this guy for a short period of time, but I swear he's a complete idiot. He's being blackmailed by an anonymous psycho, yet here we are getting junk food at a diner all while he's busy trying to work his way inside the pants of some fan-girl. It's like he doesn't even give a shit that there's a crazed woman running around town trying to get him." Julian vented and only realized after he finally stopped talking that he had said way too much. "Now please forget everything that I just said to you because no one is supposed to know any of that."
"As juicy as that news is, I'm actually more concerned about you right now," Cassie replied, her tone coming off as if she wore a smile on her face. "Why do you sound so
jealous ? I mean, you only just met the guy, right? Please don't tell me that you've caught feelings for the man-whore already, Jules. I know how fast you can move, but damn..."
"Calm down, it's not even like that!" Julian exclaimed.
The server returned with his plate of food, eyeing Julian with a confused expression. It was enough to make Julian apologize for being so loud. He continued his conversation only after the young man left.
"And have you forgotten that he's as straight as a pole?" Julian continued where he left off.
"Poles can always be bent, honey." Cassie snickered..
Julian rolled his eyes. "Even if I wanted to go for him – which I don't - I couldn't, for various reasons."
"Oh, I don't want to hear any of that! It's not like this would be the first time that you went for a straight guy and made him switch teams," Cassie giggled. Julian turned red, smirking. "Plus, everyone has a little gay in them. Aiden honestly looks like the type that'd be willing to experiment with a lot of crazy shit in the bedroom. I'm sure you could bring him over to the dark side, easily. Don't kid yourself, Jules."
"Alright, that's enough about my life," Julian laughed, changing the subject. "What's going on with you and Sabrina?"
"We broke up," Cassie replied in a nonchalant tone. "I really liked her but she was just too much for me to deal with. That girl just about drove me crazy. I thank God that we split up before things got too serious."
"That's what your ass gets for trying to play house with a twenty-two-year-old," Julian joked. He'd barely touched his food after having gotten lost in the phone call with Cassie. "When are you coming down to visit me? I really miss you, Cass. It's been lonely as hell around here ever since Lance and I split up."
"I actually really need to take a break from all the uppity bitches that I have to work around on a daily basis," Cassie laughed. "I think I'm gonna use up some of my vacation days for once. It seems like everyone else is taking time off but me. And of course, you'll be the first person that I make plans with, so keep your schedule open for me."
"My schedule is always open for your silly ass." Julian smiled.
He continued his conversation with Cassie and eventually got around to eating his meal. Fast-forward about twenty-five minutes later and it was time for him and Aiden to get the hell out of here before Aiden got spotted by someone. The paparazzi were the epitome of sneaky, so they couldn't be underestimated.
Julian paid for their meal and as he turned around to stand from his seat, his mouth fell open after taking in Aiden who was now sitting across from three busty, overly-enthusiastic women: there was the brunette with the purple shirt and sitting on either side of her were two blondes.
Julian assumed they were all friends. Either way, he was pissed off because this is exactly what Aiden didn't need right now - attention.
Having felt like he was being watched, Aiden turned around to see Julian glowering at him from the other side of the diner. He excused himself from the sexy trio that he had planned to bring home with him this evening as he got up and walked over to Julian.
"They're gorgeous, right?" Aiden was grinning like the Cheshire cat. "I put in a good word for you, by the way. The blondes are totally hot for you, man."
Julian looked past Aiden and took another glance at the three women he'd left behind. Julian then rolled his eyes in disgust and shook his head as he brought his attention back to his clueless playboy standing before him.
"Listen, Grayson. I'm nowhere near interested in Thing 1 or Thing 2," Julian said. "Now, if you're done screwing around, gather up your little fan club and let's go home."
"Whoa, wait a damn minute." Aiden placed a hand on Julian's chest and prevented him from turning to leave the diner. "There just has to be something wrong with your eyes, man. Those two chicks are hot and ready for you to make your move. I don't get how you're not excited about that."
Julian clutched Aiden's hand with a firm grip, holding it to his chest as he smirked at the green-eyed playboy while thinking, you and that nasty little mouth of yours are gonna get you in trouble with me one day...
"We clearly have different tastes in who we find appealing, Grayson. You'd see that loud and clear if you weren't so entranced by all the plastic tits and fake asses that you seem to constantly surround yourself with." Julian finally let go of Aiden's hand and let it drop to his side. Aiden was blushing and his green eyes were opened wide as he tried his hardest to figure Julian out. "Hurry and gather up your friends so we can get out of here. I'll be waiting for you all in the car."
Julian left the diner after that as Aiden stood behind, momentarily dazed by what had just happened. "Yeah, different tastes, I guess."
a/n: welp... you'd think Aiden would figure Julian out by now, lmao
